Liverpool VAR audio in full as refs swear after realising Luis Diaz mistake

Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou said he has never been a fan of VAR after their 2-1 win over Liverpool

Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) have released the full audio footage of Luis Diaz’s disallowed Liverpool goal on Saturday. The Colombian’s tidy strike was wrongly chalked off, with VAR Darren England and assistant VAR Dan Cook quick to realise their mistake, but seemingly powerless to do anything about it.

England and Cook have been stood down from this weekend’s forthcoming round of Premier League fixtures, with PGMOL bearing the brunt of fierce backlash since the decision to disallow Diaz’s strike for offside. Liverpool went on to lose the game 2-1, with Tottenham’s stoppage-time winner deciding the contest.

The refereeing body apologised for the ‘significant human error’, and while pondering whether to make the VAR deliberation footage public, Liverpool released an angry statement branding PGMOL’s explanation ‘unaccapteable’.

Of the transcripted audio footage below, on-field referee Simon Hooper can only hear the comments directed towards him. PGMOL claim to have undertaken a ‘full review’ and sought out measures to avoid similar incidents occurring in future.
