The news of his deal will come as a blow to Tottenham, who were also interested in acquiring his services.
Liverpool made their first move on Thursday after Tottenham’s bid for the winger established that Porto would sell below Diaz’s £66million buy out clause.
The details of Diaz’s deal with the Reds have not been disclosed as of yet, but the Colombian international – known as ‘noodle’ because of his wiry frame – is expected to have signed a five-year contract with the club.
Diaz will bolster the attacking options available to Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool pursue Manchester City at the top of the Premier League and try to win the Champions League and the domestic cups.
