Harry Maguire will hold showdown talks with Erik Ten Hag in a bid to remain as Manchester United captain.
Maguire endured a torrid season with United that saw him made a scapegoat for the team's woeful campaign. United failed to win silverware and missed out on Champions League qualification after finishing sixth in the Premier League. Maguire's performances were called into question, with some United fans calling on him to be replaced as skipper.
The England defender joined up with Gareth Southgate's squad following the end of the season and has not had the chance to sit down and speak to new United boss Ten Hag.
But he is determined to hang onto the captain's armband and will discuss his role in the team with the Dutchman when he returns to pre-season training.
Ten Hag has spent the last few weeks pouring over video footage of United's games last season, in a bid to get to know his squad and analyse the strengths and weaknesses of individuals.
It remains to be seen if he keeps faith with Maguire, with the likes of Bruno Fernandes, David De Gea and Raphael Varane viable options to replace him as captain should Ten Hag decide to make a change.
Who should be Manchester United captain next season? Let us know in the comments section below.
Maguire, meanwhile, has been told he can report back to pre-season training later than the rest of the squad due to his involvement with England.
Ten Hag has ordered his stars to go back to Carrington on June 27 to undergo strict fitness tests but Maguire will be given up to two weeks grace, although he is expected to still be involved in United's tour of Asia and Australia next month.
