Manchester City and Tottenham are still at a standstill in negotiations over Harry Kane with £40million separating them currently.
The Sky Blues are believed to be the front runners to sign England captain Kane, who is pushing for a move away from Spurs in search of silverware.
But Tottenham's hefty price tag appears to be putting off potential suitors, with Kane set to stay in north London as things stand.
Daily Star Sport understands City have not given up hope of signing Kane, but the two clubs remain £40m apart in their respective valuations of the England captain and talisman.
Spurs supremo Daniel Levy is holding out for up to £160m for his prize asset, but City are not prepared to go beyond £120m for Kane, who turned 28 last week.
Negotiations are expected to drag on for several weeks due to the complexity of the deal.
And City are bracing themselves for talks to go right down to the wire before the transfer window closes on August 31.
Should the current Premier League champions fail to get a deal over the line though, they might end up losing out on Kane to bitter rivals Manchester United.
