Man City ‘fighting Chelsea and Tottenham to sign Inter star Milan Skriniar’

Manchester City are set to join Chelsea and Tottenham in the race to sign Inter Milan star Milan Skriniar with the defender's contract set to expire at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old has been attracting interest from all over Europe and was the subject of a lengthy, but ultimately unsuccessful, approach from PSG over the summer.

City signed Manuel Akanji on transfer deadline day, though are expected to go back in for another centre back next summer with manager Pep Guardiola keen for a bit of a defensive reshuffle.

Nathan Ake came close to leaving the club last month while Aymeric Laporte is yet to feature this season due to injury and a move for the highly-rated Skriniar makes sense, especially if he's available on a free.

Chelsea have been tracking Skriniar for a few years and are still in the market for a centre back despite splashing £69.5m on Wesley Fofana, especially if their late approach for RB Leipzig's Josko Gvardiol is anything to go by.

Tottenham have also been showing an interest in the Slovakian, who worked well under Antonio Conte during the Italian's two-year spell at the San Siro.

Skriniar joined Inter in 2017 from Serie A rivals Sampdoria for around £15m, having moved to Italy from hometown side MSK Zilina a year earlier.

He's barely missed a match in the past five season, racking up over 200 appearances for the Milan club, and Inter are keen to tie him down to a new deal, despite his, and the club's, shaky start to the new campaign.

The Nerazzurri are currently seventh in the table after losing three of their first seven league matches, with Skriniar scoring an own goal over the weekend during their 3-1 defeat to Udinese.
