Manchester City have suffered a significant transfer blow after refusing to sell Eric Garcia to Barcelona, because the defender has now told the club he will leave for free as soon as he can. According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Garcia is still reluctant to discuss a new deal.
City rejected all of Barcelona’s bids for Garcia up to the transfer deadline.
The defender emerged as one of Ronald Koeman’s top targets this summer after he took over at the club.
Garcia, who came through the academy at La Masia, is eager to return to Catalunya, and is out of contract next summer.
Barca had a bid of £15million rejected by City on deadline day, with Koeman desperate to land the 19-year-old.

However, City held firm on their £20m valuation of the teenager, and refused to lower their asking price.
And Barca’s attempt to sign Garcia was ended after Manchester United pulled out of the running to sign Ousmane Dembele.
The Catalans wanted to offload Dembele before they made any signings, and were keen to sell the winger to Manchester United for a fee in the region of £50m.
However, United only wanted to loan the Frenchman, and ended their interest on deadline day.

But City still won’t be able to keep hold of Garcia, despite Barcelona pulling out of the race to sign him.
Romano tweeted on Monday to confirm Garcia had told the Citizens he has no desire of staying at the Etihad.
With his contract up next year, the defender has set his sights on a free transfer to Barca next year.
Garcia will reportedly sign a pre-contract agreement with Barca in January before moving at the end of the season.

Barca’s inability to sell Dembele also meant they had to pull out of their deal to sign Memphis Depay.
The Dutch forward had become the club’s top attacking target, and they had reportedly agreed to pay Lyon £25m for him.
However, they had to sell Dembele before they could fund the move, and therefore had to end their interest.
