Man Utd ‘agree Antony terms’ and hope to seal £80m transfer after he missed game

Manchester United are hoping to secure the signing of Antony before the end of the summer window, with personal terms already 'agreed' with the Ajax star.

Erik ten Hag has switched his attention to completing the signings of Casemiro and Antony this summer, and with a deal for the Real Madrid midfielder close, full focus is now on raiding his former side. Antony was left out of Ajax's 1-0 win against Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday after previously missing training, as transfer links intensify.

According to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, Antony has already agreed to a five-year deal at Old Trafford, with just a fee needed to give the transfer the green light. United are expected to return with a bid of £80million this week, as their previous offer of £67m was rejected.

It could be a very busy end to a rather stagnant summer for United, with the Red Devils deciding to try and spend big as the window draws to a close. A potential deal forth £70m to bring Casemiro to Old Trafford is close to being wrapped up, and now United could spend a further £80m to secure the services of Antony.

The 22-year-old has made it clear that he'd like to move to United this summer, as speculation has disrupted the youngster. But the power is in Ajax's hands, with the Brazilian under contract until 2025.

United have already raided Ajax once this summer, signing centre-back Lisandro Martinez in a deal worth £56m. But the Dutch champions have also lost Sebastien Haller, Ryan Gravenberch, Nicolas Tagliafico, Perr Schuurs and Noussair Mazraoui this summer, and are keen to keep their squad intact.

They've also reinvested some of the funds in a whole crop of new talent, with Steven Bergwijn the oldest of their eight summer signings at the age of 24. Ajax are the only team with a 100 percent record in the Eredivisie, with Antony scoring one goal so far this season.

Ajax have held firm to their £80m price-tag all summer, and their stubbornness may pay off as the final week of the transfer window draws near. The Dutch club aren't desperate for cash, but if their valuation is met then it's an offer they cannot refuse.

With Casemiro set to become their fourth summer signing and take their spend to a total of £140m, a deal for Antony would shatter the £200m mark. But after losing their opening two Premier League games, there is a sense of desperation around Old Trafford.
