Man Utd and Liverpool ‘ready to make bids’ for Ivan Toney’s £50m team-mate

Transfer Deadline Day deals completed by deadline

Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal are reportedly ready to make bids for Ivan Toney’s Brentford team-mate Aaron Hickey. The full-back has starred for the Bees in the Premier League since joining the club from Bologna last summer.

Hickey, who can play on either side of defence, has started all six of Brentford’s Premier League matches this season following a fine campaign last time around. And it appears he could soon be snapped up by one of England’s top clubs.

According to The Mirror, United, Liverpool and Arsenal will need to put £50million on the table to spark any discussions when they test Brentford’s resolve. But the 21-year-old could even be persuaded to move overseas for the second time in his career as he is also being targeted by Bayern Munich.

Hickey moved about in his younger days and left the Hearts academy to sign for Celtic as a teenager in 2017. But the ace returned to Hearts a year later before signing for Bologna in 2020. And he finally got a move to the Premier League following a string of fine displays in Serie A.

Brentford have endured an underwhelming start to the new Premier League season and have won just one of their first six matches. The west Londoners were beaten 3-1 at home by Everton on Saturday and are in danger of sliding down the table after failing to win since overcoming Fulham 3-0 in mid-August.

And Brentford boss Thomas Frank could also see his prolific frontman Ivan Toney depart in January after already allowing goalkeeper David Raya to join Arsenal in an initial loan deal. Toney bagged 20 top-flight goals last season but is currently banned due to gambling breaches.

“So far we’ve only sold one in the Premier League, that was David Raya – or that’s a loan but probably will be a sale in the future I guess,” Frank explained on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football at the start of the week. “I think every club in the world are a selling club except five or six clubs. We are a selling club if the right price is there.

“I think if it’s the right time for the player to go, from my perspective that’s not my decision – that would be Phil [Giles, director of football] or Matthew [Benham, Brentford owner] in the end – then I think if they have developed well with us, been on the journey, and now they’re proven good enough to go to the top clubs, then I think it’s the right thing if it’s the right price.”
