Transfer update: Latest on Ozil, Coman and Pelle
Manchester United and Liverpool transfer target Patson Daka has declared he wants to follow in the footsteps of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, hinting he would want to play in the Premier League.
Daka has been attracting attention from the Premier League this season.
The 22-year-old has been linked with United, Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester City this season after putting in some impressive performances for RB Salzburg.
The Zambian striker, 22, has scored 15 goals in 17 games this season.
He appears to have picked up from where Erling Haaland left off after the Norwegian left the club last year for Borussia Dortmund.
Daka has eight goals in eight Bundesliga games this season, as well as five in three in the OFB Cup.
His excellent start to the season has seen him become a target for numerous Premier League teams, amid talks of a potential bid in the summer.
Salzburg acted quickly to get the youngster to sign a long-term contract just two years after he joined, with his current deal running until the summer of 2024.
But speaking to BBC Sport, he gave the clearest indication yet that he would be willing to move to the Premier League in the near future.
He declared he wanted to be like Aubameyang, Mane and Salah, having watched them make their way in England’s top tier.
“To see our big brothers like Aubameyang, Salah, Mane, it’s something that gives me the dream that I can also make it,” Daka told BBC Sport. “I can be like them.
“They are my inspiration, knowing that they also come from Africa.
“I think when people are making those kinds of comparisons, it’s great, looking at the status of Sadio Mane, the kind of football he plays and the kind of person that he is.”
Zambia boss Milutin Sredejovic echoed Daka’s comments, and insisted the young striker is destined for the very top.
“I would say he’s on the road to replace what Samuel Eto’o once was in representing Africa and African football,” Sredejovic said.
“He could be compared to Sadio Mane or Samuel Eto’o, with the level of skill and speed that he has.
“With the sense for space, sense of positioning, in the right place at the right time.”
