Manchester United icon Dwight Yorke has told the club to take Romelu Lukaku back to Old Trafford to solve Erik ten Hag’s attacking woes. The Red Devils flop is on the periphery at Chelsea ahead of the summer transfer deadline, and Ten Hag reportedly wants another new striker.
Lukaku arrived at Old Trafford amid much fanfare after snubbing Chelsea to complete a £75million switch from Everton in 2017.
He scored 27 times in his maiden United season but struggled after Jose Mourinho’s sacking and managed just 15 in the following campaign, totalling 42 goals in 96 appearances.
Inter Milan offered Lukaku an escape – handing United a club-record £73m in 2019 – before two years and a Serie A title later, he returned to Chelsea in a £97.5m deal.
But his second spell at Stamford Bridge hasn’t gone to plan, and he is free to leave as Chelsea embark on a new era under Mauricio Pochettino.
Yorke believes Lukaku still has plenty to offer and should be an option Ten Hag looks at if he wants more firepower this season.
“Romelu Lukaku is absolutely still good enough to play for a top-six club,” Yorke told OLBG.

“I think Man United or Tottenham should take Lukaku on a short-term loan deal and agree to pay a certain amount of his wages.
“As much as people say about Lukaku, he has a very impressive goalscoring record, and he doesn’t get as much credit as he deserves.
“If you have a fired-up Lukaku who wants to play for you, he’s a match-winner and a handful for any opponent in the world.
“Man United have invested heavily in Rasmus Hojlund, but if you want to compete with the best, then Lukaku is that player who can score 15 to 20 goals in a season, which is priceless and hard to find in today’s game.

“Lukaku is still only 30 years old and a proven goalscorer. I think whoever gets him on a short loan deal will have done good and subtle business.”
Ten Hag is said to be eyeing another striker after splashing £72m to sign Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta, but any new arrival will likely have to come at a cut price.
The Dutchman may also have Mason Greenwood to pick from in the near future as United reportedly prepare to announce his return after a six-month investigation into his future.
But Yorke is convinced Lukaku would be a worthy addition if the opportunity to bring him back to M16 arises.
