Ralf Rangnick will reportedly allow more of Manchester United’s attacking stars to depart the club in a transfer U-turn as a result of Anthony Elanga’s superb form for the first team.
Elanga joined United at the age of 12 from Malmo and has been knocking on the first-team door for the best part of twelve months.
He made his competitive debut towards the end of last season in a 2-1 defeat by Leicester City and scored his first goal a week later against Wolves on the final day of the Premier League season.
But it has been this season where the Swedish under-21 international has really come into his own, making eight appearances and coming to the fore ahead of stars such as Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford at certain points.
After his goal against Brentford last week, Elanga has forced Rangnick to reconsider who he keeps in his squad.
Anthony Martial has departed to Sevilla while Amad Diallo has joined Rangers on loan this month, and ESPN claim Rangnick sanctioned the deals and will let two more stars go because of Elanga’s emergence.
The report claims that their sources revealed that after previously being hesitant in regards to outgoings this month, Rangnick is now happy for an offensive clearout, with as many as four players leaving.
Martial departed for Seville on Tuesday, whilst Diallo joined Rangers late on Thursday afternoon as the club looked to offer their fringe players first-team opportunities elsewhere.
And with his impressive performances, there may be a chance to develop yet another United superstar.
Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba are all homegrown talents that plied their trade in the youth academy before excelling at Old Trafford.
And it appears Elanga will be the next on that list if he continues his rich vein of form.
England star Jesse Lingard is set to leave the club either this month or in the summer which could offer Elanga further opportunities.
Newcastle had made a loan bid for the Warrington-born midfielder, although their efforts were turned down.
With just six months left on his contract, Lingard can leave for free in the summer.
And Rangnick confirmed he will no longer be a United player come July.
“Well, he’s going to leave in the summer anyway,” the German boss admitted recently.
