Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is happy with his central defensive options at Manchester United.
Harry Maguire is certain of his place in the side having held on to his captaincy, and Victor Lindelof is usually his preferred partner following the recent injury problems faced by Eric Bailly.
Although the defeat at home to Crystal Palace reinforced the view of some supporters that the club should bring in a fresh face to play next to Maguire, their manager has hinted that he is pleased with his choices.
Part of his thinking will be the return to fitness of Bailly, who only managed four Premier League appearances last season.
The Norwegian told the media on Friday morning: “I think last season proved to us how we can defend at our best.
“Last week wasn’t fantastic, we conceded sloppy goals but I think our defensive record from last season with Eric and Harry how good a partnership they were.
“Eric is fit again, a big big plus and looking forward to seeing him develop and play more games.
“We’ve been waiting him to be fit and play more regularly.”
Ian Wright offered some advice to Solskjaer earlier in the week, and urged him to go all out to try and secure the signature of RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.
Talking on The Kelly & Wrighty Show, he said: “Upamecano, 21 years old, he’s probably desperate to go somewhere like Manchester United.
“Why aren’t they doing that deal? Especially when you watch how Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof played the other day.
“We know that the goalkeeper [is struggling]. I think Dean Henderson coming in there is not going to help David de Gea.

“I think it’s going to put him under pressure knowing that there’s somebody who’s going to cause him problems, and I think we’re going to see more mistakes out of him.
“But why aren’t they doing that deal [for Upamecano]? Why aren’t they going and doing the deal? Why aren’t they doing the Jadon Sancho deal? They are dithering, and what’s going to happen is they are going to get caught up and passed.”
Next up for United in the Premier League is a trip to Brighton at lunchtime on Saturday.
