Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag turned down the advances of RB Leipzig back in the summer in order to move to Old Trafford instead, reports say. The Dutchman has impressed in the dugout since replacing Ralf Rangnick. And he’ll be hoping to mastermind another positive result when the Red Devils lock horns with Fulham in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Manchester United eyed the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Julen Lopetegui when it came to replacing Rangnick, who had arrived as an interim replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

But Ten Hag ended up getting the job instead, with the Dutchman proceeding to impress in the time since.

According to The Mirror, however, the 53-year-old could easily be spending this season managing in Germany had things gone differently.

The Dutchman was apparently approached by RB Leipzig, who were ready to offer him more money to take him to the Bundesliga.

But Ten Hag, it’s claimed, felt ‘compelled’ to accept an offer from United.

Man Utd takeover: Man Utd making plans for five players

The former Ajax boss had a difficult start to life in England, with the Red Devils losing their opening two Premier League matches against Brighton and Brentford.

Ever since, however, United have been very much a team on the up.

They’re currently third in the Premier League table, meaning they’re poised to return to the Champions League after a one-year absence.

United won the Carabao Cup last month, beating Newcastle to secure the first piece of silverware of the Ten Hag era.

The Red Devils are still going strong in the Europa League, with the club going through to the quarter-finals of that competition following a 1-0 win over Real Betis on Thursday.

And United will lock horns with Fulham in the FA Cup on Sunday looking to make the last four of that competition.

One player the team who are poised to go up against is Andreas Pereira, who left the Red Devils for the Cottagers back in the summer.

The midfielder had previously been expected to be a key player at Old Trafford during his younger years.

But Pereira was allowed to leave United, having struggled for consistency throughout his spell in Manchester.

And Ten Hag has hailed the Samba star for his performances in west London since departing, admitting he knew all about Pereira and his talents.

“Andreas Pereira is a really good player,” said the 53-year-old.

“I [have] known him already a long time, I had him in the youth team at PSV, before he transferred to Manchester United.

“I am really happy for him and that he is progressing that well. I think it was the right step for him as I think he has to play on a regular basis.”

And he added: “He didn’t do it over several years at Manchester United, [but] then there comes a point where you have to switch.

“Maybe to take a step back in order to progress in the future and I think he is doing a good job, that is quite obvious, as is Fulham.

“They are playing in a good way.”

United beat Fulham 2-1 earlier in the season at Craven Cottage, with Christian Eriksen and Alejandro Garnacho both on target that day.
