Man Utd boss Ten Hag will love what Hojlund was spotted doing on Denmark duty

Man Utd players' feelings towards Jadon Sancho after latest Erik ten Hag spat

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag would have loved what Rasmus Hojlund was filmed doing after Denmark’s latest Euro 2024 qualifying win. Denmark took a huge leap toward next summer’s tournament by beating Finland 1-0 at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium on Sunday, and Hojlund’s post-match actions spoke volumes.

The 20-year-old striker was a second-half substitute again after coming off the bench in the 4-0 win against San Marino earlier in the week.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg netted the winner to help Denmark leapfrog Finland into second in Group H, trailing leaders Slovenia on goal difference.

It left the nation in the driver’s seat, with favourable fixtures against Kazakhstan, San Marino and Northern Ireland to come in their final four.

After full-time, despite his youthfulness, Hojlund led the jubilant celebrations with the away section in Helsinki.

With a megaphone in his hand, United’s £72million new boy rallied the supporters with an emotional speech.

Hojlund passionately shouted: “I heard you all, and your passion is everything in football. We are going to the f***ing Euros! F***ing come on!”

Ten Hag has regularly stressed his desire for strong characters in his squad and players who are hungry to compete for the highest honours.

So Hojlund taking the lead in front of an experienced Denmark squad – including Old Trafford teammate Christian Eriksen – would have undoubtedly delighted his manager.

“That is the characters we need: we need hungry players, and he is a player who is so determined to score goals and win games and win trophies,” Ten Hag explained after Hojlund’s arrival.

He added: “He is really a frontman, very direct to the goal. A very good presser, a physical presence, and I think in the balance of this squad, we needed that.

“Alongside Rashford, [he is] another player who is direct and can score goals, and that is all in his mind – he wants to score goals.

“I think he has such a huge potential, and now it is up first to him to explore that, and we will support him – all the coaches.

“I’m sure the whole team was waiting for a type like him, and they will integrate, and in the dressing room or on the pitch, they will help him.

“But as I said, finally, the player – he has to prove it.”

Hojlund made his United debut after recovering from a back injury in last Sunday’s 3-1 defeat at Arsenal.

The Red Devils’ new No 11 is expected to start against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday when he will play before the Old Trafford faithful for the first time.
