Man Utd chief Ed Woodward targets four transfers to complete Ole Gunnar Solskjaer squad

Man Utd: Was Solskjaer right to start Pogba in derby?

Manchester United have laid out their summer transfer plans as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to overhaul his squad for next season. Although the club are expecting a quiet January, four targets are being identified for the summer window in 2021.

According to the MEN, United have pinpointed for specific positions where they will look to recruit.

The report suggests Ed Woodward will be in the market for a winger, a centre-back, a right-back and a defensive midfielder.

United’s medium-to-long term aim is to ideally have two quality players available for each position for the start of the 2021/22 campaign.

It’s not expected that any of these signings will be made in the upcoming winter transfer window, however the club hopes to have finalised a list of targets by the new year.

The club could be tempted into a signing should one of their intended targets become available for transfer during the window.

In defence, Dayot Upamecano remains the club’s primary objective although Brighton’s Ben White and Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane are also under consideration.

Another Real Madrid defender Lucas Vazquez has also been linked with the right back role to provide competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

United could also target England international Kieran Trippier from Real’s La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid.

Manchester United eye Declan Rice transfer following Mino Raiola’s Paul Pogba comments

The Bury-born full-back is a boyhood United fan and has just 18 months left on his contract at the Wanda Metropolitano.

West Ham’s Declan Rice has long been linked with a move to United’s Premier League rivals Chelsea but with Solskjaer said to be a fan, the club may look to just ahead in the queue for his signature.

The Hammers are reportedly adamant not to allow their defensive midfield star to go without a fight and will likely demand a fee upwards of £60million for his services.

This may result in United looking further afield for a cheaper option, and potentially someone like Denis Zakaria, who has impressed at Borussia Moenchengladbach both in the Bundesliga and this season’s Champions League.

With plans to strengthen in these areas, United will also make an effort to move on any unwanted players from their squad.

Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero are approaching the end of their existing contracts and will both be available for transfers.

Phil Jones and Eric Bailly could both also be surplus to requirements should the club find buyers.

Further up the pitch, United will have to decide whether to extend striker Edinson Cavani’s contract beyond the initial one-year deal he signed in October.
