Manchester United are set to complete the signing of Raphael Varane but the Frenchman won’t be their final arrival this summer. Reports broke yesterday confirming that an agreement was now in place with both the player and Real Madrid following several rounds of negotiations and there is now excitement that United are firmly in Premier League title contention.
Varane is now expected to head to Manchester where he will undergo a medical once completing his period of quarantine.
Should there be no complications and United do complete the deal, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a team capable of challenging on all fronts.
Yet more additions are expected between now and August 31 when the transfer window closes and Solskjaer already has one name in mind.
According to The Telegraph, United want to add Kieran Trippier to their squad despite already seeing one bid rejected.
JUST IN: Man Utd want to complete two more signings after Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane
The England right-back is desperate to return to the Premier League after winning La Liga with Atletico Madrid.
He has just one year remaining on his current deal at the Wanda Metropolitano and does not intend to extend his stay.
United see him as the perfect competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who can also play on the right-side of a back-three.
It’s understood Trippier wants to join United and will make that clear to Atletico.

However, any deal could now hinge on the futures of Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard according to the report.
That’s because both are facing uncertain futures at the club and their wages and a potential transfer fee would give United extra scope to spend.
The operations that will see both Jadon Sancho and Varane arrive at the club have not come cheap.
Pogba has just one year on his contract and United are mindful that they could lose him for free.

Meanwhile, Lingard remains a target for West Ham but it’s unclear whether he will receive the playing time his performances in east London deserve for the Red Devils.
The attacker has featured for United in pre-season matches against Derby and QPR but his involvement could be limited this season due to Bruno Fernandes.
Lingard has already outlined his desire to play regularly but United’s forward line is now stacked with star quality.
United are said to be targeting a net spend of between £75million and £100million so sales will now hold the key to future spending.
