Man Utd fans ‘lost for words’ after selection of ‘unfit’ Maguire backfires badly

Manchester United fans have blamed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for Harry Maguire's disappointing first-half performance against Leicester in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The club captain had missed the recent international break with England and the previous domestic outing against Everton due to the calf injury he suffered against Aston Villa in late September.

With Maguire part of the traveling side that flew to Leicester before the weekend's fixture, many were surprised to see him starting and felt justified in that surprise after the first-half.

The 28-year-old was off the pace as Mason Greenwood grabbed an opener, giving the ball away as Youri Tielemans managed to lob David de Gea from outside the area.

One fan wrote on Twitter: "Solskjaer picking a clearly unfit Maguire still has me lost for words."

With a second adding: "Obviously he took the risk but Maguire is no where near where he needs to be."

A third continued: "Harry Maguire is clearly not fit. Solskjaer is running him to the ground."

With a fourth concluding: "Maguire is obviously not fit! Why start him!?."

With Alan Hutton telling BBC Sport: "Maguire needs to speed things up and be more decisive.

"I know it can be difficult after a while out, but he's not done that today."

Solskjaer said of the decision before the game: "It was a difficult decision because he has not trained a lot. He did not feel any reaction so we decided to go with him."

After Maguire said of his fitness earlier in the week: “Yeah it's getting there.

“I still haven't trained yet with the squad, but I am getting better, I am progressing as I should be.

"It is obviously a frustrating injury for me to get, but I am progressing and I will be back on the pitch soon.”
