Manchester United fans left Old Trafford extremely happy after seeing their side open the Premier League season with a comfortable victory over Leeds, but Dan James failed to impress some supporters. With a few players only just returning to training following their summer break and others still recovering, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted to give James a rare start.
He lined up alongside Mason Greenwood and Paul Pogba in the attacking positions, with Bruno Fernandes deployed in his usual No 10 role.
Pogba and Fernandes quickly got things rolling for United, with the former playing a delightful dink over the top of Leeds’ defence to set up the Portuguese tactician.
Leeds remained in the game at the break and drew level three minutes after the restart courtesy of a wonder strike from Luke Ayling.
United responded instantly though as Pogba turned provider once again, this time for Greenwood to restore their lead.

The flood gates soon opened as Fernandes secured his hat-trick with a quick-fire double before Pogba bagged his fourth assist of the game, setting up Fred.
United were able to take their foot off the gas soon after with Solskjaer making a number of changes, including James coming off for Jadon Sancho’s debut.
The new signing showed flashes of skill for United fans to get excited about but, with the game already won, Solskjaer’s side appeared content with the 5-1 scoreline.
United fans roared at full time and kept the noise going long after the game had finished.
It proved to be a great game for United players all round as Greenwood, Pogba and Fernandes hit the ground running.
But some supporters were far from impressed by the display from James, who struggled to enjoy as much freedom as his fellow attackers.
One fan fumed: “Dan James should just follow Leeds back home.”
Another wrote: “Please don’t forget to take Dan James back with you.”
A third tweeted: “Convinced Leeds actually signed Dan James and that he’s just a spy.”
A fourth said: “Honestly, Dan James looks like he’s playing for Leeds.”
The Wales international has long been linked with a move to Leeds and was all set to move to Elland Road in January 2019.
James had agreed terms on a move to Leeds, evening travelling up from Swansea on deadline day to sign a contract.
But the move collapsed at the eleventh hour with Swansea unable to agree terms with Leeds.
Just six months later and James ended up joining United, but there have been continued reports linking the winger with a move to Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
