Man Utd icon Sir Alex Ferguson lists £3.5m mansion for sale after death of wife
Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has put his mansion up for sale following the death of his wife. The legendary Scot has decided to put his house on the market six weeks after his beloved life partner, Cathy, passed away in October, and the property has been listed with an eye-watering price.
Ferguson, 81, had lived in the stunning mansion based in Wilmslow, Cheshire with his wife Cathy before she tragically passed away on October 7.
The couple were married for 57 years and had three children – all sons – as well as 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Lady Cathy, who was 84, was laid to rest as mourners gathered at St Andrew’s Cathedral to pay tribute at her funeral in Glasgow, Scotland.
A matter of five weeks later, the five-bedroom property has been put up for sale with an asking price of £3.5million on well-known property websites as Ferguson may be looking to downsize.

The magnificent property, which features traditional tartan patterns on the carpet in some rooms, is being offered with no chain.
The estate agent’s listing of the property says:“This impressive, deceptively spacious detached is… positioned within a very private, gated and secure plot. It boasts approximately 7,000 sq ft.”
Images of the huge mansion give a unique insight into the couple’s life, with family photos and mementoes of the football great’s life scattered around the house. A grand chandelier can be seen hanging in the hallway in front of a centre-based staircase.

In addition to the five bedrooms, there are six bathrooms, a gated entrance and even a dedicated games room. It also includes a gym and a private bar, with four reception rooms to enjoy a tipple.
Ferguson’s 27-year reign at Old Trafford came to an emotional end in 2013 when he announced his retirement from the game after winning 13 Premier League titles, the Champions League twice, five FA Cups and four EFL Cups.
He has continued to have a say in United’s major decisions and is often seen in the director’s box. Ferguson is also an avid fan of horse racing and owns several horses of his own, with three running at the Cheltenham Festival this year.
