Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag will have a number of last-minute decisions to make on his squad for today’s match against Nottingham Forest. Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire are all doubts while Jadon Sancho is unlikely to feature. Express Sport looks at what XI Ten Hag will likely field against Forest.
Goalkeeper: David De Gea
Martin Dubravka maintained his spot in goal for United’s Carabao Cup tie against Burnley last week with David De Gea left on the bench. But the Spaniard will be brought back into the starting line-up today for the Premier League tie against Forest.
De Gea’s future at Old Trafford may be shrouded in mystery at the moment with the club yet to trigger his contract extension. However, he remains the club’s No 1 choice for now and he’s played a huge role so far for Ten Hag’s side.
Defence: Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw
Dalot remains a major doubt to make his return to United’s team after picking up an injury at the World Cup with Portugal. Aaron Wan-Bissaka was given a rare start in Dalot’s place last week and impressed. He’ll likely keep his place for now.
Maguire missed the game against Burnley through illness, but he’s been back on the pitch training and should feature. There remains some doubt on whether Martinez and Varane – both of whose World Cup campaigns went all the way to the final – will be back in time to play a part in the match.
Midfield: Casemiro, Eriksen, Fernandes
With Maguire set to return at the heart of defence alongside Lindelof, it will allow Casemiro to move back into midfield. The Brazilian deputised in defence against Burnley, but Ten Hag will want him back in midfield against Forest.
Scott McTominay may be the one to drop out with Christian Eriksen continuing to impress in a United shirt. Bruno Fernandes will once again be the main man through the middle for United, linking up midfield and attack.
Attack: Antony, Rashford, Martial
Sancho is continuing to train away from the United squad with Ten Hag recently stating the winger wasn’t “physically or mentally” fit to play. The 22-year-old has been away in Holland, working with coaches recommended by Ten Hag.
It means Antony could come in to start alongside Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in attack. Alejandro Garnacho appears to be favoured by Ten Hag also, but Antony could be set to get the nod.
