Man Utd ‘regret’ not completing Gueye summer transfer – and he was ready to join
Manchester United reportedly regret missing out on the opportunity to sign Idrissa Gueye from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
The Red Devils were assessing their options for a new defensive midfielder after West Ham had slapped a £100m price tag on Declan Rice.
Their attention turned to ex-Everton midfielder Gueye, 32, who had just two years left on his contract so would have been a cheaper option and was believed to be open to leaving France.
However, United needed to sell before they could buy and consequently didn't make a move, which has been a source of regret ever since, as per the Daily Mail.
They report that with Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard all staying at Old Trafford, the deal couldn't be done, much to the frustration of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Since the start of the season the Norwegian boss has struggled with the defensive balance in his side, something which Gueye may have prevented.
The Senegal international spent a season with Aston Villa before linking up with the Toffees for three years, so has considerable Premier League experience.
How much would Gueye have helped United's current issues? Let us know in the comments section…

To add insult to injury, he has made a great start to the season with PSG.
In eight Ligue 1 appearances he has scored three goals, which is more than both Neymar and Lionel Messi have managed for the French league leaders.
And he also bagged a stunner in the 2-0 Champions League win over United's rivals Man City, taking his tally to four in 10 games – an impressive return from the middle of the park.
The potential for a deal to be struck is still there with Lingard and Pogba looking increasingly likely to depart when their deal's expire at the end of the season.
Matic, meanwhile, has a further year to go, while fellow midfielder Fred also sees his deal run out in 2023.
However, Gueye may be deemed to be too old, with Rice 10 years younger and fellow United target, Kalvin Phillips, aged 25.
