Man Utd star Fred subject of surprise transfer proposal to test Ed Woodward’s resolve

Manchester United are set to receive an offer for Fred in the coming weeks from Galatasaray, according to reports in Turkey. The midfielder has finally settled at Old Trafford and was a regular under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last season.

It’s been a slow start for Fred in England following his £52million switch from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer of 2018.

He looked set to join bitter rivals Manchester City before Jose Mourinho instructed the board to hijack the deal.

Fred was unconvincing during his first season at the club but Solskjaer is now starting to get the best from him.

The arrival of Bruno Fernandes has increased competition for places at the base of midfield though.

Unfortunately for the 27-year-old, his game time has been reduced following Paul Pogba’s return to full fitness.

Despite that he remains an important part of Solskjaer squad and has already started to change perceptions surrounding his ability.

According to Turkish outlet Fotomac, Galatasaray are keen on bringing the Brazil international to Istanbul.

The Super Lig outfit are on the hunt for central midfielders ahead of the new campaign.

That’s because Premier League duo Mario Lemina and Jean Michael Seri have returned to Southampton and Fulham respectively.

Lemina is unlikely to return to the club with Fulham and Besiktas keen on his signature.

Galatasaray boss Fatih Terim would love to have Fred in his team next season.

The board are now said to be monitoring Fred’s situation as they weigh up a bid.

Fred has been linked with the Turkish giants in the past when his United career was struggling to get off the ground.

However, it would come as a big surprise if United were prepared to sell the star particularly given how much they paid to sign him just two years ago.

Fred made 48 appearances in all competitions for United last season.

That includes the Europa League semi-final against Sevilla, a match he started in midfield as United were succumbed to a 2-1 defeat.

Paul Scholes recently claimed Solskjaer could sell Jesse Lingard and Fred after taking them off after an hour against LASK.

“To bring him [Lingard] off after an hour when he definitely won’t start on Monday that was a little sign, and Fred as well, that he [Solskjaer] might be getting rid of them.”
