Jesse Lingard is ‘upset’ after footage emerged appearing to show Ralf Rangnick dismissing the Manchester United star because ‘he will leave in the summer anyway’.
Lingard has spent more than two decades at United since joining the club’s academy at the age of seven, making 224 appearances for the first team.
But the England forward wants to leave Old Trafford this month after struggling for game-time over the past two seasons and is keen to join United’s Premier League rivals Newcastle on loan.
Lingard is growing increasingly ‘angry’ and ‘dismayed’ at Manchester United for postponing his loan move and his switch to St James’ Park is now in danger of collapsing altogether.
But Lingard has more than one reason to be annoyed at the club and is said to be ‘upset’ over a video that appeared to show Rangnick writing off the 29-year-old.
In a video which is believed to have been filmed following United’s 1-0 win over West Ham on Saturday, Rangnick is seen signing autographs while a fan urges him not to sell his ‘favourite player’ Lingard.
Rangnick paused from signing autographs before replying: ‘He will leave in the summer anyway.’ The video has been uploaded onto TikTok and other social media platforms.
While Rangnick is only expected to be in charge of Manchester United until the summer, he will then move into a consultancy role at Old Trafford so will continue to have a say on transfers.
Lingard knows he can flourish away from the Theatre of Dreams having enjoyed six productive months at West Ham last season in which he scored nine goals and made five assists.
West Ham remain interested in signing Lingard during this transfer window and could look to take advantage of the breakdown between Man United and Newcastle.
‘Jesse is a commodity that is not playing for his football club that would be a benefit to a lot of clubs in the Premier League, that would be my personal opinion,’ Hammers coach Stuart Pearce told talkSPORT this week.
‘Our [club] is certainly one of them, there is no doubt. Everyone is aware that we tried to get Jesse back again last summer and that will continue probably in this window as well but that is down to Jesse.
‘Jesse has six months of his contract left, he will decide and Manchester Untied more importantly will decide what his future is for the next six months.’
Lingard has already seen Manchester United team-mate Anthony Martial granted a move away from Old Trafford this month, with the French forward joining Sevilla on loan until the end of the season.
