Man Utd suffer transfer setback as Borussia Dortmund hatch new plan for Jadon Sancho

Borussia Dortmund believe that if they don’t sell Jadon Sancho to Manchester United this summer, they’ll be able to offload him for significantly more than £108million next summer. That’s the opinion of transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who reports Dortmund are convinced the winger will stay.

United are running out of time to sign Sancho, and appear set to lose out on signing him.

The Red Devils have had the winger as their top transfer target since before the window opened, and were expected to conclude the deal before the season began.

However, Dortmund have held firm on their stance that only a fee of £108m will see them part ways with the wonderkid, and United have been unable to convince them to lower that price.

United chose to leave it late to try and tempt Dortmund into accepting a lower fee, and Sancho’s omission from their squad to face Bayern Munich was an indication that he was willing to push through the deal.

However, according to Romano, Dortmund are willing to wait until next summer before selling, as they feel his value will only increase as he progresses as a player.

Sancho is under contract until 2023, meaning Dortmund are under no pressure to cave and sell for below their valuation any time soon.

And they reportedly feel they will have more clubs interested next summer, and will therefore be able to get a better deal.

Romano told The United Report that if the Red Devils muster up the £108m, they will still be able to sign him before Monday.

He said: “I don’t think anything is secret really. Every player in the world has a price, and you have to respect Borussia Dortmund because they have always been clear – €120million (£108m) or nothing.

“I don’t think they want to sell Jadon Sancho.

“They want to wait because they are convinced that next summer, other clubs will come for Jadon Sancho, not just Manchester United.

“They have an agreement with the player so they are leading the race, also for the future.

Premier League done deals: Every confirmed transfer in the summer window so far

“Next summer anything can happen, or in January. We will see if clubs like Liverpool, also clubs from La Liga [join the race].

“They expect they can sell Jadon Sancho in the future for more than €120million as they consider him as one of the best youngsters in the world.

“They are just maintaining their position – typical from German clubs.

“If you consider the Kai Havertz deal for example, between Bayer Leverkusen and Chelsea, it’s different because Borussia Dortmund are playing in the Champions League.

“They are in a different league in this moment. It was a totally different situation.”
