Man Utd transfer news: Van de Beek forces Sancho rethink, Reguilon breakthrough

Donny van de Beek is still the only major arrival for Manchester United this season as the pursuit of Jadon Sancho continues.

Sancho has been United's top target all summer, but Borussia Dortmund have steadfastly refused to drop their £108million price tag for the winger.

It remains to be seen whether a resolution ca be reached, with the Red Devils valuing Sancho at more like £80m – while many observers believe that money would be better spent on a centre-back anyway.

Here is the latest transfer gossip around United.

Van de Beek makes United rethink Sancho pursuit

The signing of Donny van de Beek has given Manchester United something to think about when it comes to top target Jadon Sancho.

United are understood to have agreed personal terms with Sancho, but Borussia Dortmund's £108million price tag remains a sticking point.

However, the £40m price agreed with Ajax for Van de Beek has reinforced executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward's belief that Sancho is worth around £80m in the current market.

That's according to a report from the Daily Star, which says United won't be held to ransom over their pursuit of the winger, and will focus on other targets if Dortmund do not lower their valuation.

But Solskjaer told to persevere in chase

Despite the current transfer impasse, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been urged to persevere in his efforts to sign Sancho.

Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison reckons the arrival of the Dortmund winger at Old Trafford would push United's other attacking talents to up their game.

Hutchison told ESPN: "I think the problem for Ole, which is inevitable for him at this stage with the players he’s got, is that you could pick their strongest 11, but when it comes to changing tactics, apart from maybe Dan James, the bench isn’t that strong.

“Jadon Sancho, if he comes in, he’d push Mason Greenwood and Rashford, Martial gets pushed more, they’ll then create more depth."

Breakthrough in Reguilon pursuit

Manchester United have reportedly made a breakthrough in their bid to sign Sergio Reguilon.

The Real Madrid left-back, who was on loan at Sevilla last season, has caught the eye of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co. in recent months.

The defender would provide competition for places at left-back, and some much needed cover, given both Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams are currently out of action with injuries.

Real Madrid had initially insisted that a buyback clause would need to be included in any deal to sell Reguilon to Manchester United.

But Spanish publication El Desmarque claims boss Zinedine Zidane is now happy to sanction the sale without the clause, as it will help get the Red Devils on side, with Madrid keen to sign Paul Pogba.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to “address the real problem” at Old Trafford and sign a world-class centre-back.

That’s according to Ian Wright, who thinks the Red Devils should be looking to land someone like Kalidou Koulibaly rather than Sancho.

Speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty show, Wright said: “From the defensive point of view, I just feel that they are still very weak.

“We’re hearing that Manchester City might get Koulibaly – United have got to go in there to try and do that deal!”
