Man Utd transfer round-up: Eriksen swoop planned as Upamecano interest cooled

Man Utd will be hoping for a less panic-stricken transfer window in January after leaving their summer business to the last minute.

The Red Devils made several acquisitions on deadline day after months of false hope in their pursuit of Jadon Sancho.

This time round they face an all different problem, as speculation centres around Paul Pogba following comments from his agent Mino Raiola teasing his departure.

Should Pogba move on United will no doubt want to have an immediate replacement lined up, while there are still question marks over their defence.

With that in mind, here are the latest transfer rumours at Old Trafford.

United plot Eriksen swoop

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly targeting a move for Christian Eriksen to help provide an extra creative element to his United side.

Eriksen is desperate to leave Inter Milan just a year after making the switch from Tottenham.

The Dane has become disillusioned with being in and out of the side under Antonio Conte, and is eager to find a new club in January.

That opens the door for United, but they face competition from both PSG and Arsenal.

According to a report from The Sun (via Express ), Inter will accept offers in the region of £27million, but are not interested in any swap deals.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have missed out on Jadon Sancho in the summer, but he still made some big moves in the transfer market with Donny van de Beek, Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani all arriving.

But their start to the season has been a mixed bag, with a home defeat to Crystal Palace and a 6-1 thrashing by Spurs at one end of the scale, and a tremendous 2-1 win over PSG in Paris at the other.

The question now is whether they can find the right balance?

Despite their ongoing problems in defence, United have cooled their interest in RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano.

United were one of two leading contenders for the 22-year-old's signature, but according to the Athletic, Upamecano is no longer a primary target.

That leaves Bayern Munich best placed to land his services with Upamecano's contract containing a release clause of £38million.

Real Madrid star Raphael Varane is also on United's shortlist, but Solskjaer may now prefer to pursue Brighton's Ben White instead.

Saha slams Raiola

Former United striker Louis Saha has laid into Paul Pogba's agent Mino Raiola and blames him solely for the latest transfer speculation.

Raiola's comments about his client on the eve of United's Champions League decider with RB Leipzig have shone the spotlight back on Pogba's future.

But Saha feels Raiola is the only one stirring the rumour mill.

"This is unbelievable, the headlines were about Pogba because of the agent – it wasn’t even Pogba who said anything," Saha told GentingBet . "I can’t understand how these things can happen. This is absolutely against the interests of the club.

"I can't believe that Paul knew about it, I just can’t believe it. We need to find out what happened as there might be more to it but the timing of it was really bad."

He added: "I still think that obviously Paul has got tremendous talent and is still a good player with a lot of ego, which is really helpful to actually prove people wrong, and this is what I want from him.

"He definitely needs to step up his game because there is a team who need to win."
