Man Utd transfer roundup as Phil Jones price set and Diogo Dalot makes pledge

Alex Telles made his Manchester United debut in Tuesday's 2-1 Champions League win over Paris-Saint Germain – but fellow deadline day signing Edinson Cavani was not ready to face his former club.

The pair joined on the same day United completed deals for young wingers Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has by and large kept faith with the players who helped his team secure a top-four finish last season.

Donny van de Beek has played more of a part following his summer move from Ajax, but there has been just as much talk around exits as arrivals of late.

We’ve got the latest on one player who left before the deadline and another who could be on the way when the window reopens in January.

Dalot to become ‘complete player’ after loan exit

Diogo Dalot has been given an opportunity to kick-start his career after joining AC Milan on loan from Manchester United for the 2020/21 season.

The Portuguese right-back is waiting to make his debut for the Italian club, having played just once for United this season before his move to Serie A.

Dalot spoke to the media in the lead-up to Milan beginning their Europa League campaign against Celtic on Thursday, and explained his aims after committing to a year away from Old Trafford.

“When one knows that something is wrong, he has to work to improve. I know I have to improve in defence and also in attack,” he said, as reported by the Manchester Evening News .

“This is the right place to do it. Here is the right mentality, I just have to keep working to improve myself. I hope to become a complete player at Milan.”

Milan reportedly do not have an option to buy Dalot permanently at the end of his loan, but he will be desperate to feature after falling out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Portuguese press play down links with Sporting youngster

Manchester United have enjoyed a healthy relationship with Sporting Lisbon in years past, with Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo just two of the players to have joined from the Portuguese club.

Over the weekend, it looked as though we might have another name to read up on, with reports claiming United had a first option on Sporting academy talent Luis Gomes.

However, according to reports from the Portuguese media, that is not the case.

Portuguese publication Record (via Sport Witness ) cites a source within the Primeira Liga club who maintains reports of an agreement regarding the player’s future have “no foundation”.

The report claims no price has been set with regards to the player’s next move, despite mention of a £14million fee in the English media, suggesting Gomes – fresh from signing his first professional contract – will work to force his way into the first team in Lisbon.

United want £20m for out-of-favour Jones

Phil Jones is expected to leave Old Trafford sooner rather than later, having been left out of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Champions League squad, but Manchester United don’t seem ready to let him leave on the cheap.

Fulham and West Ham United have both reportedly been looking at the former England defender, who might have moved before the October deadline were it not for an injury.

However, despite Jones having played just three games in 2020, The Sun claims the club still want £20m for him.

Jones is under contract until 2023, so United are in no rush to sell from that perspective, but his fitness record may raise concerns.

The 28-year-old hasn’t been a first choice at Old Trafford for some time, and only two of his eight first-team appearances last season – a 3-3 draw with Sheffield United and a 2-0 defeat at home to Burnley – came in the Premier League.
