Manchester United are reportedly planning to wait until the final week of the transfer window in their pursuit of Jadon Sancho in the belief that Borussia Dortmund will accept the terms they have already offered.
Sancho is United's top transfer target this summer but talks about a move have stalled, with Dortmund holding out for a fee of £108m.
According to Ian McGarry of the Transfer Window Podcast, United believe that "there will be a further decline on football finances in the next 12 months, and Dortmund will realise they have to cash in on Sancho" and that "barring a catastrophic collapse … Jadon Sancho will be a Manchester United player before the window closes".
"Manchester United believed, and still believe, they have a deal in place with the player over a five-year contract," McGarry said.
"Last week, we reported that the deal was getting held up over bonus payments which are due to [be paid] to Sancho from Dortmund, those are part of the upgrade in his contract that he signed last summer. Those dates are yet to mature, but the money involved is more important to his representatives.
"Just as important is that Sancho has made it clear to several of his England colleagues who currently play for United that he will join them in this window.
"Solskjaer, while feeling frustrated and conscious that Sancho is yet to join up with the squad just days before they’re due to play their first Premier League game, has been reassured and told consistently by the club’s administrators that they believe the deal will be done.
Man Utd warned they face transfer problem in bid to find Harry Maguire partner
"At the moment, there’s a standoff between the two clubs over what the fee should be and the payment structure. It was based on what the up-front fee would be and what the add-ons would be.
"However, United believe that if they leave the final negotiation until the final week of the window, that Dortmund – who don’t have any offers for the player and want to maximise their profits – will cave in and agree to the terms that United have already offered.
"Manchester United’s quarterly reports are due next week for the three months when Covid shut football down, and board members have been warned that they will not look good, because the revenue for matchday revenue etc are going to be completely wiped out. That will have an impact on what United will spend.

"The belief is that there will be a further decline on football finances in the next 12 months, and Dortmund will realise they have to cash in on Sancho at a very high rate of profit, and United will get – not a hugely different deal – but a better deal than the one they believed they’d agreed.
"Barring a catastrophic collapse of all the talks which have taken place and the verbal talks which have been agreed, Jadon Sancho will be a Manchester United player before the window closes next month."
