Man Utd ‘trying to sign Trippier in January’ – it would let Mourinho take Dalot

Jose Mourinho is said to have a 'specific transfer request' for one of his former Manchester United stars – and they might just become available in January.

The Red Devils could build on their interest in Kieran Tripper by signing the England international from Atletico Madrid, and subsequently selling Diogo Dalot to Roma.

Tripper, 31, won La Liga with Atletico last season but was linked with a move back to the Premier League in the summer after featuring at Euro 2020 under Gareth Southgate.

Dalot, 22, also featured at the tournament for Portugal, but hasn't been able to earn regular starts at United following the arrival of Aaron Wan-Bissaka at United.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Mourinho has requested that Roma bring in Dalot, who spent time at AC Milan on loan last season and can also play on the wing.

The report adds that the deal depends on United's ability to sign Trippier, and adds that they will try to find that agreement over the coming months.

Mourinho said when asked about links to his countryman Dalot in September: "The transfer window is closed, you want to put me in the condition to talk, but I am not going to do it.

"I analyse situations, but I can’t share all my thoughts with you. I do not enter these dynamics."

With Solskjaer saying of his defender this season: "Diogo has had a very good summer with being called into Euro squad.

"He did well for Portugal, he had a season where he learned a lot from in Milan, he kept fit that was a big thing and he’s got qualities that we look at trying to exploit more and more.

"He’s got more experience. We’re not here just to loan out players for years and years.

"Last year’s loan was to give him experience and game time and I think he did well when he came on the other night."

And Trippier recently saying of his time in Spain: “I have improved a lot, especially in my defending.

“With Diego Simeone, I have matured as a player and I have gained a lot of experience.

“It has been two great years in La Liga.”

However, there remains one large issue with the reported talks, with Trippier not expected to be back on the pitch until January following a shoulder injury he suffered earlier this month.
