Man Utd will pay Mason Greenwood millions if forward doesn’t leave this week

Manchester United will have to pay Mason Greenwood £8million if the forward is not sold this week.

The Red Devils announced on August 21 that Greenwood will not play again for the club. It came after United conducted their own investigation following charges of attempted rape and sexual assault against him being dropped earlier this year.

The two parties “mutually agreed” that the 21-year-old would find a new club. But United are rapidly running out of time to flog their former academy graduate, with the summer transfer window set to close at 11pm on Friday.

Should a move not materialise by then, United would either need to wait until the January window opens or pay Greenwood £8m to terminate his contract, which is worth a reported £75,000-per-week and runs until June 2025.

According to The Athletic, club executives had devoted time to justify their initial chosen path to angry employees, before creating a list of individual football pundits, journalists and politicians who would either be in favour or against Greenwood’s integration.
