Man Utd’s Scott McTominay valued at £58m – more than Mo Salah and Son Heung-min

CIES Football Observatory Weekly released their annual football value table on Monday morning – and it produced some shocking results.

While the usual suspects were littered at the top of the table, one name stood out as a particular surprise. Manchester United's Scott McTominay was ranked as the 53rd most valuable player on the planet at €67.5million (£57.6million).

Incredibly, McTominay has been ranked ahead of a who's who of stars, including Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and Tottenham Hotspur's Son Heung-min. Salah and Son had shared the Golden Boot in the Premier League last season – while McTominay had drawn criticism in an underperforming United side.

Salah, who could have a lower transfer value due to his contract expiring next summer, is valued at €55million (£46.9million).

While Son, whose contract runs one year short than McTominay, is only ranked at €52.9million (£45.2million), according to CIES Football Observatory Weekly.

One fan joked after reading the list: "CIES do provide some laughs, I'll give them that. They value Scott McTominay at… €67.5 million!"

Salah and Son weren't the only superstars to be ranked lower than McTominay – Kevin De Bruyne, Matthijs de Ligt, and Jack Grealish were all listed below the midfielder.

Unsurprisingly, Kylian Mbappe topped the list with Real Madrid Vinicius Jr and Erling Haaland completing the podium.
