Nemanja Matic reckons Manchester United's humbling defeat to QPR was a wake-up call for the club's young stars.
An inexperienced United side crashed 4-2 to QPR at Loftus Road in their second game of pre-season.
And Matic believes the shock will prove to be a steep but invaluable learning curve for some of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's emerging players.
Matic said: "The kids now understand what they have to do in senior football.
"For some of these guys, maybe it was their first or second game for United in senior football, so of course they're going to remember this.
"I have to say they worked really well. It's a great experience for them and I wish them all the best for the future. It's a good start for them and we will see what they're able to do in the future for our club."
United, who won their pre-season opener 2-1 at Derby, face Premier League newcomers Brentford at Old Trafford on Wednesday in their latest friendly.
Matic added: "On Wednesday we have another good match, against Brentford, so we have to keep working to see where we can improve.
"We still have a lot of friendlies to play before the season starts and hopefully we will be ready for the Leeds game."

Jesse Lingard made his Red Devils return during the clash, and he found the back of the net in under five minutes for Solskjaer's side.
Lingard was deemed surplus to requirements by Solskjaer last January, but the midfielder was able to rediscover some form at West Ham.
And Lingard can count himself unlucky that he missed out on a Euro 2020 spot for Gareth Southgate's side.
The 28-year-old is keen to earn himself a starting spot at Old Trafford this season.
