Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears close to another transfer exit

Man Utd: Solskjaer happy with ‘hunger’ in record win

Manchester United are reportedly targeting a deal for Norwich City right-back Max Aarons when the transfer window reopens at the end of the campaign. The Canaries defender is being eyed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he seeks competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka. And that appears to be pushing Diogo Dalot closer to the Old Trafford exit door.

United have seen Alex Telles galvanise Luke Shaw at left-back.

They signed the Brazil international from Porto in the summer transfer window and, though he’s impressed on the pitch, he’s also made an impact away from the field of play.

At Carrington, Shaw has kicked on. The England international is now enjoying his best spell for the club since his arrival from Southampton in 2014 and, after all these years, now looks the finished article.

And United are now keen to repeat that trick.

Wan-Bissaka walks into the side at right-back at present. There’s no genuine contender for the position, which he’s impressed in ever since his move from Crystal Palace in 2019.

As a result, Aarons is being eyed.

The Norwich star has been vital for Daniel Farke’s side this season, bouncing back after a failed move to Barcelona to help his side to the top of the Championship table.

United had mulled over signing in January but, instead, are saving their vast economic resources until the end of the campaign.

And their interest in Aarons suggests Dalot will be sold when the transfer window reopens, with the right-back currently on loan at AC Milan.

He’s done well at the San Siro, helping the Rossoneri to the top of the table under Stefano Pioli.

Dalot was tipped for greatness when he joined United from Porto in 2018, with Jose Mourinho comparing him to Gary Neville at the time.

But Solskjaer has never appeared sold on the 21-year-old, who made just 11 Premier League appearances last season.

And with United eyeing improvement at right-back, Dalot doesn’t appear to be in their sights.

Milan are reportedly keen to make his signing permanent, with Pioli determined to sign the right-back while his price is around the £15million mark.

And if United sign Aarons, it’s hard to see where Dalot fits in.

Recent reports suggested the club were yet to decide about the Portuguese star’s future, with Solskjaer keeping his options open.

Yet their current stance on Aarons suggests the opposite.

Meanwhile, speaking in January, Dalot opened up on his ‘bittersweet’ move to Milan – admitting he felt he was unable to prove his worth for United during his time there.

“Of course, the feeling is a little deeper, more because I didn’t have the time I liked physically,” he told Record.

“I spent great moments at United. I played very important games for me and the team.

“I left with a bit of a bittersweet feeling for not being physically available for all those games I lost due to injury.

“But it is what it is. I wouldn’t change anything because what I learned was very important for my future and how I am now.

“I don’t regret it or look back with disappointment.”

Dalot also admitted he was flattered by how United fans rated him, and also believes the Milan faithful have taken kindly to him as well.

“It is always positive to see the feedback from Milan fans and the affection that United fans have for me,” he said.

“It’s fantastic to feel that.

“But my focus is solely and exclusively on the present. The gift is Milan and helping the club to fulfil its goals and mine. It wouldn’t be professional to be otherwise.”
