Manchester United have ‘no doubt’ when it comes to pursuing Erling Haaland, it has been claimed. The Borussia Dortmund striker has long been admired by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, having previously played under his compatriot at Molde. And while a transfer won’t take place this summer, it may do in a year’s time.
Manchester United tried to sign Haaland back in the January transfer window of 2020.
Having seen the Norway international sparkle with Red Bull Salzburg, Solskjaer and Ed Woodward jetted out to Austria in order to talk to him about a move to Old Trafford.
The pair left believing they’d struck an agreement for Haaland but, in the end, they missed out.
The 21-year-old decided to join Borussia Dortmund instead, with the player since taking his game to a new level over at the Westfalenstadion.
And Eurosport’s Dean Jones has now claimed that United want to sign Haaland next summer, and that there’s ‘no doubt’ they’re eying a deal.

Furthermore, he also states that things on the striker’s future should become clearer by the time January rolls around.
“Manchester United want to be in that conversation, there’s no doubt about it,” he told The Football Terrace podcast.
“We won’t get an idea until the turn of the year as to where his mind is heading.
“Because, right now, he’s focused on having a ridiculous final season with Borussia Dortmund.”
United, it seems, will wait until the New Year before deciding to attack the Haaland situation with everything they’ve got.

But they’re not the only club who admire the striker, who netted a remarkable 40 goals across all competitions last term.
Chelsea were eyeing Haaland this summer, with Roman Abramovich and Thomas Tuchel both sold on his signing.
However, with Dortmund insisting their prized asset isn’t for sale, they’ve since decided to land Romelu Lukaku instead.
Real Madrid are also interested, though Kylian Mbappe appears to be their priority.
It’s feasible PSG may go after Haaland themselves should Mbappe depart, especially with the Norway international scoring against them in the past.
And Manchester City could pursue the Norway international next year if they fail to sign Harry Kane, who is currently their main target.
Jones previously stated that United were ‘excited’ when they learned Chelsea would be targeting Lukaku instead of Haaland.
“It hasn’t quite come through as far as Chelsea hoped it would by now, I think it would be fair to say,” he said.
“Borussia Dortmund will be closing the door at the end of the week because they need to focus on the new season.
“Erling Haaland knows that he has so many options open to him next summer.
“Man United, by the way, are becoming quite excited by all this – the fact that Haaland might still be on the market next summer.”
United have signed three players from Dortmund in recent years.
Shinji Kagawa moved back in the summer transfer window of 2012, when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge.
And Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Jadon Sancho have joined during Jose Mourinho and Solskjaer’s spells in charge.
