Manchester United ‘know’ Jadon Sancho will be available at a discounted price this summer, according to reports. The England international was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top transfer target back in the summer. But, after Borussia Dortmund demanded a huge £110million fee, they ended up settling for Edinson Cavani instead.

United’s interest in Sancho dates back to 2017.

On that occasion, Jose Mourinho tried to lure the forward from Manchester City to Old Trafford – having sensed an opportunity.

Sancho didn’t join, however, with the forward instead choosing to chance his arm in Dortmund instead having been swayed by a promise of first-team football.

United tried again in 2019 but, ultimately, their failure to secure Champions League football counted against them.

And, just last summer, they were deterred by Dortmund’s huge asking price of £110m.

They didn’t want to spend that amount because of the coronavirus crisis, believing it would send out the wrong message to fans across the globe.

Interest, however, remains.

And the South China Morning Post claim that United are aware Sancho’s price tag will drop this summer, with the pandemic set to change the footballing landscape.

No fee is mentioned but it is claimed Solskjaer wants a right winger, despite Daniel James and Mason Greenwood playing in that position this season.

It’s also stated that United have scouted Sevilla star Jules Kounde ‘extensively’.

The centre-back has impressed this season and, with the Red Devils choosing not to sign Dayot Upamecano, they could pursue the Frenchman instead.

Meanwhile, former United star Dimitar Berbatov recently opened up on Sancho – and expressed a belief he’d be wise to reject a move to the Theatre of Dreams.

“I have read more rumours about Jadon Sancho at Dortmund and how United could sign him,” said Berbatov.

“So, you sign Sancho and where do you play him?

“They will have lots of games in the Europa League and FA Cup, but then what happens to people like Donny Van de Beek? It would be Van de Beek two if they sign him.

“Yes, he is a great player but then do you just have too much talent? Cavani has been a great signing, and do you drop him?

“You will not turn down Sancho and he is a good player and it is whether you want that luxury headache where you tell people you are rested today, etc.

“It is not a good conversation, I am telling you from experience.”

Berbatov also thinks United wouldn’t be bothered if Sancho went elsewhere, with the likes of Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona also linked.

“I still don’t think it will happen,” he continued.

“The way things are going at the moment credit has to go to Ole and the players now.

“He has found the right balance about which players are playing. He has found that delicate balance with players not complaining and that is a difficult thing. The manager has taken the right decisions so far.

“If Sancho signed for another team or a rival it wouldn’t be a blow.

“Sir Alex Ferguson got rid of players because no-one is bigger than the club, they were replaced.

“That’s still the case, no one is bigger than Manchester United, so, I’m not expecting anything to happen.”
