Manchester United offered Edinson Cavani as search goes on for attacking recruits

Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign free agent Edinson Cavani as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer searches for a striker before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Cavani has been without a club since bringing his seven-year stay at Paris Saint-Germain to an end this summer at the end of his contract.

The 33-year-old would provide cover for Anthony Martial in Solskjaer’s squad, with on-loan Odion Ighalo out of form and due to return to Shanghai Shenhua at the end of January.

United are in contact with Cavani’s representatives, who have been offering their client to European football’s top clubs since his departure from the Parc des Princes.

Cavani scored seven goals in 22 appearances for PSG last season – which was cut short by the coronavirus pandemic – but missed 17 games through injury.

United are yet to give up hope of securing their priority transfer target Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, though protracted negotiations remain at an impasse.
