Manchester United are determined to win Real Madrid star Raphael Varane. And, now, it’s been claimed a move to Old Trafford ‘will happen’ for the centre-back. The club have already snapped up Jadon Sancho – but they want the World Cup winner to follow.
Manchester United are eager to make a splash in this summer’s transfer window.
With the Glazers looking to get fans back on side after the European Super League debacle, they’re spending big to try and transform the club’s fortunes.
It emerged on Wednesday that a deal for Sancho had been agreed with Borussia Dortmund, meaning he’s now just a successful medical away from moving to Old Trafford.
And the club want Varane to follow.
They’ve admired the Real Madrid star for over a decade, with interest dating back to Sir Alex Ferguson’s time in charge.
And the Guardian’s Daniel Harris, speaking on the Football Terrace podcast, has claimed Varane has told Real Madrid he’s leaving – and a move to United will happen.

“I think that’ll happen,” he said.
“I’m not certain, but I’ve been told that he wants to come to United, he’s told Madrid he’s leaving.”
United, if they sign Varane, will be getting one of the best defenders in world football.
The France international is a serial winner, having claimed three La Liga titles and four Champions League crowns during his time at the Bernabeu.
United thought they would win the race for him 10 years ago, with Ferguson believing he’d be the perfect long-term replacement for Rio Ferdinand.

Yet that didn’t happen, with Zinedine Zidane moving in to entice him to Real Madrid instead.
Varane later revealed he talked with Ferguson about a switch, saying: “Zidane called me and I asked him to call me back because I was studying for my baccalaureate.
“It’s my relaxed nature that made me react like that. You have to be care-free to deal with so many things at such a young age.
“But to be honest, after that call, my mind was elsewhere; it was hard to focus on revising!
“It was the craziest period of my life: I was getting ready for the baccalaureate, the phone was ringing off the hook, I visited the Real facilities, I met Alex Ferguson… Just imagine, I was doing exams and signing autographs for other students.
“It was surreal. I’m really proud of having passed.”
But United could now be about to finally get the player.
And Varane isn’t expected to be their last signing of the transfer window, despite the club spending big on Sancho.
Kieran Trippier is being eyed at right-back, with the club keen for more competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka – who walks into the side almost by default these days.
And, in midfield, the club have been linked with Rennes’ Eduardo Camavinga and West Ham’s Declan Rice.
Speaking at the end of last season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claimed he wanted ‘two or three’ fresh faces to beef up his squad.
“We’re planning as we normally do,” he said,
“It’s not like end of season and let’s see what we do, that’s an ongoing process.
“We are looking at the squad, the players who are going to stay, those who might be leaving and I hope that we’re going to strengthen with a few… two or three players that we definitely need to challenge higher up in the table.
“We’re still too far behind to think it is just going to come by itself.”
