Manchester United will still need to make another high-profile signing to be genuine Premier League title contenders next season, even if they sign Raphael Varane. That is the verdict of former Leicester and Tottenham goalkeeper Kasey Keller, who believes United need to purchase a striker to be able to compete with the likes of Manchester City.
United announced on Wednesday they have agreed a £73million deal to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.
Sancho will sign a five-year deal after England’s participation at Euro 2020.
United are now set to turn their attention to sign Real Madrid defender Varane.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to sign Varane to partner club captain Harry Maguire.

Appearing on ESPN FC, Keller was asked if the arrivals of Sancho and Varane would make United title contenders.
However, he thinks signing a striker of the calibre of Harry Kane or Erling Haaland is still needed.
“I’m not sure. I’m not sure if [Edinson] Cavani can score the goals they need,” Keller said.
“He’s done great coming in but I still see him probably in his situation being that secondary striker to play, come off the bench.

“Obviously there was talk potentially of a Harry Kane or something like that, or even doing a double deal with Sancho to bring in Erling Haaland as well. I could see that more.”
Keller thinks Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba also have to step up their games next season, as well as goalkeeper David de Gea.
“I think Rashford has to have a better season, Pogba has to be more motivated than he’s shown in a Manchester United shirt,” he added.
“If he shows the same motivation that he does for France, for Manchester United, potentially [they can win the league].
“And then obviously De Gea needs to get back to his form of a couple of years ago.”
West Ham midfielder Declan Rice is also linked with a move to United.
And Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend reckons a move to Old Trafford would suit the England international.
Townsend said on talkSPORT: “Manchester United’s a different kettle of fish.
“We go back to [Paul] Pogba, looking at Pogba in the Euros with [N’Golo] Kante doing his running for him and Pogba having the licence to get on the ball and spray passes left, right and centre.
“He would need another player like that next to him, so that’s a different kettle of fish altogether.”
