Manchester United and Liverpool are set for discussions with agent Mino Raiola over  a possible deal for Ajax prospect Ryan Gravenberch.

The 19-year-old’s current contract with Ajax expires in the summer of 2023 and Raiola is eager for him to remain with the Dutch club.

As reported by The Mirror, United and Liverpool both see the Holland international as an option to make them stronger in midfield.

A product of Ajax’s famous academy, Gravenberch has made 74 senior appearances for the club so far.

Gravenberch has been capped by Holland on nine occasions and was part of his country’s squad at Euro 2020.

Ajax are preparing to offer Gravenberch a new deal as they look to ease the uncertainty over his future.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still searching for the most effective combination in midfield and may have to enter the transfer market to solve the issue.

Liverpool, meanwhile, would also benefit from having an additional option in midfield following Georginio Wijnaldum’s move to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

Raiola was previously critical of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s handling of midfielder Paul Pogba

United have a difficult relationship with Raiola, who previously criticised Solskjaer over his handling of Paul Pogba.

In March Raiola expressed his frustration with United and stated that he wouldn’t be perturbed if he didn’t oversee another player joining the club again.

He told The Athletic: ‘With Mr Ferguson or [Pep] Guardiola, I have this problem — and I think that it is changing now — that (they believe) we should submit to them because ‘otherwise, tomorrow, you don’t do a player with Manchester United.

‘I don’t give a f*** if I never do another player with Manchester United. I’m not in their hands. I’m independent. We have only one party that we take care of: our players. And as long as our players like us, you do what you have to do.’

United attempted to sign Erling Haaland from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020, but the deal failed to materialise, with Raiola’s demands hindering the move.
