Marco Silva pulls Fulham transfer target Fred for chat outside Old Trafford

Marco Silva is interested in taking Fred to Fulham and was spotted deep in conversation with the Manchester United star following their match at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Brazilian midfielder is one of several players whose futures are up in the air at United this summer as Erik ten Hag looks to bring in further additions following a promising first season in charge. United have been linked with midfield reinforcements, which would likely see Fred slip further down the pecking order.

Already he is behind the likes of Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes with his chances only likely to become more limited should new midfield faces arrive. Silva is now looking to capitalise on Fred's situation by luring him to Craven Cottage ahead of next season.

The Fulham boss made a beeline for Fred in the car park at Old Trafford following United's 2-1 win over Fulham on the final day of the season on Sunday. According to reports, Silva did not speak to any other United player and got off the Fulham bus specifically to pull Fred aside for a chat.

The Manchester Evening News have followed up that incident by reporting that Fulham have proposed an offer to sign Fred, 30, this summer, with United keen to replace him with a younger midfielder.

Scott McTominay is another star who has been linked with an exit this summer, though at 26, it is thought United chiefs would rather lose Fred than the Scottish midfielder. Fulham have a strong Portuguese-speaking contingent already in Silva's squad, while Fred's contract is due to expire next summer, meaning the coming months are United's best chance to sell him on.

In terms of incomings, United are still yet to make a decision on whether to sign loanee Marcel Sabitzer permanently. The Austrian international has impressed at Old Trafford since joining from Bayern Munich on a six-month deal in January.

United are also in the hunt to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea. The England international looks set to move on this summer with a fee of £55m being touted. Mount's actions after Chelsea's final match of the season on Sunday have caused a stir, after footage emerged of him walking on the pitch at Stamford Bridge once all the fans had left the stadium, potentially for the final time as a Chelsea player.
