Marseille vs Man City LIVE: Latest score, goals and updates from Champions League fixture tonight
Follow all the action as Olympique Marseille host Manchester City in the Champions League this evening.
Pep Guadiola’s side came from behind to defeat Porto 3-1 in their opening group stage fixture, but have endured somewhat of an indifferent start to the season. Juggling a series of injury problems, City have taken just eight points from their opening five Premier League games, and were held by West Ham last weekend.
Marseille, too, have stuttered in form since finishing as runners up in Ligue 1 last season, with Andre Villas-Boas’ side suffering defeat in their opening group stage game against Olympiacos. The former Chelsea and Tottenham manager’s squad features a host of ex-Premier League players, including Dimitri Payet. Follow all the action live below:
30 mins: A simple ball up to Sterling gets him quickly into the box. He shifts the ball onto his right and moves to the byline. He’s looking for a cross but doesn’t have enough room so passes to De Bruyne whose curling cross goes out of play.
27 mins: Marseille break through Man City’s forward press as Rongier storms down the left. He sends a cross field pass to Cuisance, but the counter attack breaks down after his cross is straight at Ederson. Better from Marseille though.
24 mins: Marseille are working extremely hard to press City and win back the ball but they just can’t get hold of it. De Bruyne scoops the ball over the defensive line and Foden is unable to collect it running in behind.
Marseille 0 – 1 Man City – Torres
18 mins: GOAL! It’s been coming. Marseille make a simple mistake at the back passing the ball to De Bruyne. He plays an easy pass into the box and Ferran Torres breaks through the lines to tap in the opener.
15 mins: City are in total control. Marseille have been pushed very deep into their own half but City are still able to get balls into the box. Sterling receives the ball on the edge of the box, turns and feeds it to Gundogan in space on the right. He fires a good ball across the six-yard box but no-one gets on the end of it.
12 mins: Sterling deftly tip toes his way into the box from the right. He can’t open up a space to shoot so lays it back for De Bruyne. De Bruyne hits it with his first touch but Kamara is back to block it.
9 mins: City have started quickly here, three corners in the first ten minutes or so, but only one chance of note coming from them.
Raheem Sterling tries to get past Jordan Amavi on City’s right wing. The Marseille defender holds him off and lets the ball run out for a goal kick.
Sterling isn’t impressed and asks the linesman why he hasn’t given a foul.
6 mins: De Bruyne swings a corner into the middle of the penalty area. Ruben Dias meets it with a strong header but it goes over the bar.
3 mins: Early chance for Kevin De Bruyne as Ilkay Gundogan passes the ball up to Ferran Torres. He flicks it on for De Bruyne who hits one on the volley from the edge of the box. The shot takes a deflection and goes out for a corner.
Kick off: Before the match starts Man City take the knee to say no to racism. Marseille stand in a united line.
