Out of favour Manchester United star Anthony Martial is targeting a switch to Sevilla in January if he can finally secure an exit from Old Trafford, according to reports.
The Frenchman has already announced his intention to end his stint at the club after six years in pursuit of regular first team action, having been frozen out by former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and not looking like his situation will improve under interim coach Ralf Rangnick.
Rangnick admitted last week that he was yet to speak to the French forward, who joined the club for around £36million in 2015, and now he has set his sights on a move to LaLiga, Sky Sports claim.
Anthony Martial has reportedly targeted a move to Sevilla in January if he leaves Man United
The Spanish outfit – coached by Julen Lopetegui – are impressing in LaLiga, currently 2nd
It says he has made Sevilla his number one choice of destination, with the high-flying side currently 2nd in the table and in a position to offer him an important role in the squad – coached by Julen Lopetegui.
Sevilla are keen on a loan deal, the report adds, with a view to make the move permanent, though LaLiga rivals Barcelona are also interested in a similar deal.
Juventus are another party keeping tabs on Martial as European outfits bid to revive the once promising star’s career.
Still only 26, Martial has played 268 times for United, scoring 79 goals, and is said to be interested Newcastle United too – while Atletico Madrid have also been credited with interest this month.
The Frenchman has made just two starts all season and has announced his intention to depart
Diego Simeone’s men were reportedly keen to use Kieran Trippier in a swap deal for the former Monaco man, according to Eurosport.
His agent Philippe Lamboley announced his client was seeking a departure after growing tired of a lack of minutes, saying: ‘Anthony wishes to leave the club in January.
‘He just needs to play. He doesn’t want to stay in January and I will speak to the club soon.’
But Rangnick shrugged off those comments and heaped doubt on the player’s future by admitting he was yet to speak to him.
‘I don’t communicate with agents via the media and press,’ Rangnick said ahead of United’s game against Brentford. ‘The player hasn’t spoken with me or us about it.
Ralf Rangnick has revealed that he has not spoken with Martial about his future at United
Martial is looking for first team football and Sevilla would be in a position to offer it to him
‘After the final training session before the Crystal Palace game, after having trained with team, he informed the doctor and the medical department that he would not be available because the pain in his knee is too big. We have to wait and see.
‘Maybe he can train again [on Sunday] but I have to speak to the doctor first. To be honest, what his agent says via the media is not of that much interest to me.’
Martial has played in seven Premier League games this season – just two of those coming as starts – with the rest of his appearances coming in cup games.
He has scored once and last featured in the 3-2 win over Arsenal at the start of the month, where he came on for just two minutes.
