Martinelli scores ‘easiest Prem goal ever’ as Fulham collapse for Arsenal star

Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli’s goal against Fulham was synonymous with the Cottagers’ measly display in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The Gunners ran out easy 3-0 winners at Craven Cottage, with first half goals from Gabriel, Martinelli and Martin Odegaard putting the game out of the reach of Marco Silva’s side in the opening 45 minutes.

Mikel Arteta’s side's victory extended their lead at the top of the Premier League back to five points following title rivals Manchester City’s 1-0 win against Crystal Palace on Saturday evening.

Martinelli’s goal and Arsenal’s second caught the eye on social media, with one account tweeting: “That has to be the easiest goal in the Prem ever.”

The 21-year-old doubled the Gunners’ advantage just five minutes after his fellow countryman had put Arteta’s side a goal up.

With the first a straightforward header from Gabriel, the second was an even easier affair, with Leandro Trossard’s clipped ball across the six-yard box finding Martinelli, who barely needed to jump to nod his free header home.

Martinelli’s goal was the second in a hat-trick of assists for Trossard, who again proved his worth to the Gunners’ title charge, also knocking Martinelli’s tally up to 12 league goals for the season.

Arteta’s side inflicted another afternoon to forget for Silva and his Cottagers side after they were beaten 3-2 by West London rivals Brentford last Monday night.

Arsenal’s busy schedule continues with the visit of Sporting Lisbon on Thursday for the second leg of the Europa League round of 16 clash, with the score in the balance following a 2-2 draw in the first leg.

The Gunners return to domestic action at home to Crystal Palace next Saturday in their final league game before the international break.
