Mbappe likened to Arsenal hero Henry amid Premier League transfer links

Kylian Mbappe has been likened to Thierry Henry and tipped to become one of the best players in the world by his former teammate Thomas Meunier.

Right-back Meunier played alongside Mbappe at Paris Saint-Germain for three seasons and witnessed the forward's rapid rise to superstardom.

Mbappe burst onto the scene with Monaco and joined PSG on loan in 2017 with an obligation to buy for £166million.

Since his move to Parc des Princes, the 22-year-old has plundered 108 goals in 150 games to cement his status as one of the best forwards in Europe.

Meunier sees strong similarities between Mbappe and his fellow Frenchman Henry, who scored over 350 goals during a glittering club career with spells at Arsenal and Barcelona.

“Kylian is someone who looks for the one-v-one, he has a bit of everything,” Meunier told reporters. “He makes me think of Thierry Henry.”

Meunier joined Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer last summer and now plays alongside another prolific striker: Erling Haaland.

The 20-year-old has netted 22 goals in 22 games this season and, like Mbappe, is linked with a host of Premier League clubs.

Meunier refused to compare the two players as they are “totally different”, but he backed them to become two of the best players in the world within a matter of years.

The Belgium international added: “Erling on the other hand is more of a killer [in the box], he can beat any goalkeeper in the world.

”In the coming years, he can take the steps needed to be among the best players in the world.

“They will both be among the best players in the world when they're around 25 years old.”

Mbappe has long-been linked with a move to Liverpool, while Chelsea have reportedly made Haaland their main transfer target this summer.

Expanding on his assessment of Haaland, Meunier added: “He has two good feet; he can improve his heading but honestly, he's only 20 years old and has time in front of him to be one of the best in the world.

“I really believe that in the coming years he will be kind of a [Robert] Lewandowski or a [Romelu] Lukaku, scoring 25-30 goals a season. He will be one of the best.”
