Melbourne Victory squad to face Man Utd includes Red Devils hero and Wolves flop

Melbourne Victory's squad to face Manchester United includes a former Red Devils hero and a forgotten Wolverhampton Wanderers flop.

United face the Victory at the Melbourne Cricket Ground at 11:05am UK time on Friday in the second match of their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia. Erik ten Hag's side began their preparations for his first season in charge at Old Trafford with a 4-0 win over rivals Liverpool at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok on Tuesday.

Victory's squad has a handful of stars that will be recognisable to Premier League fans, including former United winger Nani and ex-Wolves defender Roderick Miranda.

Former Portugal international Nani joined the A-League side on Tuesday, signing on a free transfer after leaving Venezia at the end of last season.

He previously spent eight years at Old Trafford between 2007 and 2015, making 229 appearances for the club, scoring 41 goals and adding 73 assists.

Nani also won a number of trophies under Sir Alex Ferguson, lifting four Premier League titles, one Champions League, one Club World Cup and two League Cups.

As for Roderick, who is currently Victory vice captain, he made just 19 appearances during his four years with Wolves between 2017 and 2021.

He did not play a single match for Wolves during his final three years at Molineux, with his final appearance for the club coming on the final day of the 2017/18 season.

Former Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo explained his absence in November 2020, revealing via BirminghamLive: "We made the decision not to involve him in the first team squad, from thereon we want to find him a good solution, a good club, for him to go and play his football."

Roderick was loaned out twice before leaving Wolves for Gazientep in February 2021. However, his spell in Turkey was short-lived and he joined the Victory in October last year three months after being released by Gazientep.

The Victory squad also includes three Australia internationals in the form of striker Nick D'Agostino and wingers Christopher Ikonomidis and Ben Folami.
