Mesut Ozil reveals stance on free Tottenham transfer once Arsenal contract expires

Transfer update: Latest Ozil, Salah and Dybala news

Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil has confirmed he would never sign for Tottenham, even if he leaves the Gunners on a free transfer next summer. Ozil is expected to see out the rest of his contract before leaving for nothing at the end of the season.

Ozil faces a difficult end to his Arsenal career, having been ousted from the Gunners squad.

The midfielder was exiled from the Premier League and Europa League squads by Mikel Arteta, and hasn’t played a minute of football since March.

Arteta reportedly dropped him from his plans because of his inability to play on the wing, and it seems he will not play for the club again.

He seems to be destined to leave on a free transfer next summer, but remains desperate to return to the Arsenal squad this January when he is eligible to be re-registered.

Ozil took to Twitter on Wednesday night to interact with Arsenal fans, and was asked if he would ever join Tottenham if the opportunity arises.

But he was quick to respond to the question, and posted a gif of Spiderman holding up a piece of paper with ‘NO’ written on it.

Ozil also opened up on his own situation at the Emirates, and conceded he is struggling at the moment.

When asked if he was happy at Arsenal, he said: “It’s a very difficult time for everyone around the club – not just for me. The situation is frustrating for everyone.

“Of course I would wish I could help the team especially right now, but as long as I don’t get the chance I just hope that we get better results very soon again. But let’s stay positive.”

Ozil’s agent, Erkut Sogut, recently discussed the playmaker’s situation and confirmed a move away seems most likely.

“Mesut has another six-month contract with Arsenal. Certainly, he missed football,” he said.

“He is currently working hard to wear the Arsenal shirt again, and he will continue to work.

“I would like to clearly state our situation regarding Fenerbahçe.

“Yes, we had meetings with Fenerbahçe. We had a one-on-one conversation with the club’s most authorised people.

“However, we can never have a contact before January for official transfer talks. We received transfer offers for Mesut from all over the world.

“Fenerbahce’s interest is also known. Nothing has changed for Mesut right now. Under these circumstances, it seems that Mesut will complete the season in Arsenal.”
