Mikel Arteta ‘asks Arsenal chiefs’ to sign Real Madrid star in January transfer window

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has reportedly asked club chiefs to sign Isco from Real Madrid in January. Isco is linked with a move away from Real after falling out of favour under Zinedine Zidane. Manchester City are claimed to have shown an interest in the Spain international.

Isco has started just three of Real’s La Liga matches so far this season and is yet to complete 90 minutes.

Arsenal are in the market for a creative midfielder after missing out on Lyon star Houssem Aouar in the summer.

Aouar remains a target for the Gunners, as does Red Bull Salzburg’s Hungary international Dominik Szoboszlai.

But it now appears there is another option for Arteta in fellow Spaniard Isco.

Spanish outlet Defensa Central say Arteta has asked for the signing of Isco in January.

The Gunners initially want to sign the 28-year-old on a loan deal, with the option to make it permanent next summer.

The report says there is yet to be an offer from Arsenal, who already have Dani Ceballos on loan from the Bernabeu.

Isco is not happy with his game time at Real and wants to leave at some point this season, whether that be in January or at the end of the campaign.

He is keen to play for Spain at next summer’s European Championship.

But it is claimed Real would prefer a summer departure so they can look at players who could replace Isco.

Arsenal have scored just nine goals in as many Premier League games so far this term.

They have failed to score from open play in the league for over seven hours.

So Arteta would hope bringing in a player like Isco would go some way to solving those issues.

Isco joined Real from Malaga in 2013, the same summer Mesut Ozil left the club to join Arsenal.

He has scored 51 goals in 314 appearances for Los Blancos, winning two La Liga titles, four Champions Leagues, four FIFA Club World Cups, three UEFA Super Cups and the Copa del Rey.

Isco has found the net 12 times in his 38 caps for Spain.

However, he has not played for his national team since the 3-0 Euro qualifying win over Sweden in June 2019.
