Mikel Arteta is under pressure at Arsenal heading into Sunday’s crunch clash with Manchester United after losing back-to-back games in the Premier League.
That’s the verdict of Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp, who believes Arteta will be “well aware” that he is now under the spotlight in north London.
The Gunners were beaten 1-0 against Leicester last weekend, with Jamie Vardy’s late goal handing Brendan Rodgers’ men a surprise victory at the Emirates.
They also slumped to a 1-0 defeat away at Manchester City two weeks ago, which was their second loss of the season following a 3-1 failure at the home of Premier League champions Liverpool in September.
Arteta desperately needs to avoid a third defeat on the spin when he takes his side to Old Trafford for a pivotal showdown with United on Sunday – and Redknapp insists “the focus has turned” on the Spaniard.
“It’s been a difficult run [for Arsenal]. Sometimes when you come in to a club you can make a big impact,” he said on Sky Sports’ Pitch to Post podcast.
“Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hasn’t hit the heights of last season so far, he’s had a bad run.
“They’re form against the bigger sides has been better and you’re facing a United team who didn’t look comfortable against Chelsea.
“If they can start the game well they will see it as an opportunity to get a result.
“Arteta was doing such a good job for a while but it doesn’t take long for it to turn.
“You only have to lose a few games and the focus turns on you. Mikel will be well aware of that.”
Arsenal returned to winning ways on Thursday night, recording a 3-0 victory over Dundalk in the Europa League.

Following the win, Arteta said: “After losing the way we lost against Leicester, it was painful at home and took us a few days to digest that defeat.
“But you have to react straightaway with a win, with this type of attitude and let’s get ready. We go to Old Trafford and we try to win again.”
