Mount has progressed through the club’s academy ranks into the first-team like Terry did
Like Terry did during his illustrious career, Mount has risen through Chelsea’s academy ranks before making the grade within the first team.
The 22-year-old captained the Blues during their FA Cup fourth-round win over Luton – which proved to be Frank Lampard’s last in charge of the club – and Terry believes he will be wearing the armband with regularity in future for club and country.
Taking to Instagram Live on Wednesday morning, the former Chelsea captain said: ‘Mason Mount is 100 per cent future Chelsea captain.
‘He’s been the best player at Chelsea this season to be honest.
‘He’s a great lad, trains unbelievably well, is Chelsea through and through and shows leadership qualities.
‘In my mind he’ll be Chelsea and England captain.’
The 40-year-old also captained England and believes Mount has the credentials to do the same
Terry, who won 15 major honours at Stamford Bridge, is currently Aston Villa assistant manager under boss Dean Smith.
Working at Villa Park has allowed Terry to see the talents of their talisman Grealish at close quarters and he has been astounded by his dedication to constantly improve.
‘What a talent. What a player,’ he said about the 25-year-old Villa captain.
‘We’re lucky to have him at Villa but for me he’s one of the best in the Premier League without a shadow of a doubt and can still improve as he’s only young.
‘The side people don’t see is he’s the last one to leave the training ground.
Terry is now Aston Villa assistant manager and has hailed Jack Grealish’s dedication to improve
‘He’s there every night, he wants to improve his strength, agility, speed, always looking at clips of himself after the game.
‘He’s desperate to make the England team and has been instrumental in Villa’s success.’
Terry was just as euphoric about Foden, who has played a key role as Manchester City sit five points clear at the top of the Premier League with a game in hand too.
‘When you talk about Phil Foden and Jack, they’re the two best young players in the world at the minute and we’re lucky they’re both English,’ he continued.
‘He’s 20-years-old and producing great skill and quality in a top side.’
