Newcastle ‘consider’ pulling out of Carlos transfer as he discusses his future

Newcastle United are reportedly considering pulling out of a move for Diego Carlos as the Sevilla defender opens up on his future at the club.

The Magpies have been keen to sign a new centre back this month and have been strongly linked with a move for the Brazilian defender.

Despite reportedly agreeing personal terms on a five-year deal with Carlos, Newcastle have been unable to finalise a fee with Sevilla after seeing two bids rejected by the Spanish club.

Eddie Howe's side are now understood to be weighing up whether to turn their attentions to other centre back targets.

The Express report that Newcastle are considering pulling out of any deal to sign Carlos due to the mixed messages they have received from Sevilla.

Newcastle are said to have become frustrated with the lack of progress in their attempts to sign the former Nantes defender this month.

Two bids have so far been made, with the latest being worth around £30million but both were rejected.

Sevilla are believed to want at least £50million in order to get a fee as close to Carlos' £67million release clause as possible.

Carlos has also seemed to pour water on a potential transfer this month with his comments after Sevilla's 1-1 draw with Valencia.

He told Spanish programme Ultima Hora, via The Chronicle, that: "I have a lot of time left here (in Seville)."

These comments were backed up by Sevilla assistant manager Pablo Sanz, who said: "I think Diego Carlos will be [here] until the end of the season."

Newcastle have so far struggled to secure the services of a new centre back this month, having already pulled out of a move for Sven Botman due to Lille's reluctance to sell him this month.

They have also seen a £30million bid for Monaco's Benoit Badiashile be knocked back but they remain in talks with the Ligue 1 club.

Reports have also linked the club with moves for Phil Jones and Serbian international Nikola Milenkovic.
